When an officer pulls you over for a DUI in Georgia, there are some initial tests he or she will do to determine if you are inebriated. These tests will help an officer decide if they should issue a Breathalyzer test and to arrest you for drunk driving.

Here is a list of common tests:

  • Standing on one leg – The Officer will ask you to stand on one leg and stay balanced.  Unfortunately some people may be having flashbacks to middle school gym class when they couldn’t balance on one leg. If you are one of those people, politely explain this to the officer and say you would do better with other tests.
  • Walk in a straight line – You will be instructed to raise your arms out to your sides and keep them horizontal to the ground. While doing this you will be asked to walk with one foot in front of the other in a straight line, and then turn around and walk back.
  • Recite a portion of the alphabet – This is something almost every person can do. You will most likely be asked to recite it without singing it.
