DUI at a roadside checkpoint?
DUI checkpoints are set up throughout Georgia in an attempt to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by alcohol.
If you are stopped at a checkpoint you are required to provide the officer with your drivers license and registration and proof of insurance. You are not required to answer any of his questions. The questions you are asked, and the answers you give may be used to determine if you have been drinking alcohol. Any open alcoholic container in your vehicle may lead to your arrest.
If you have been in attendance of an event where alcoholic beverages are consumed you should designate a driver who has not been drinking. If no such driver is available you should leave your car and call Uber or a taxi.
