What to do If your car leaves the roadway:
Don't panic.
Take your foot off the accelerator.
Grip the steering wheel firm and be prepared to withstand a sudden impact.
Don't apply the brake pedal suddenly and hard; use careful braking.
Don't attempt to turn back onto the road immediately. Overcompensating when returning to the road may cause you to lose control of your vehicle by skidding or flipping. It may also cause you to go into other lanes of traffic.
Wait until your speed has reduced, check the traffic, and look for a safe place to return to the road by merging into traffic. If you must, come to a complete stop before re-entering the roadway safely.
