In early April 2013, Atlanta Falcons running back Michael Turner avoided jail time in a deal with Georgia prosecutors following a DUI arrest. The deal includes one year of probation and 30 days of community service.

Turner agreed to plead guilty to reckless driving and speeding if the DUI charge was dropped. And it was. He will be subject to random drug testing.

On September 18, 2012 Turner was pulled over and arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) a few hours after winning a Monday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos.

Turner, 30, was stopped in Gwinnett County in his black Audi R8 north of Atlanta on Interstate 85 around 5:00 a.m. According to Cpl. Edwin Ritter, police spokesman, the initial stop was prompted when Turner was clocked speeding 97 mph, 32 mph over the posted limit.

At the time, Ritter said in a press conference, “The officer could smell an odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver and proceeded to conduct a DUI investigation.”

After failing a portable breath test at the scene of the stop, Turner was arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County jail in Atlanta. He spent two hours there and was released on a $2,179 bond. During that time, he refused the intoxilyzer test at the jail.

The arresting officer’s report stated that Turner was cooperative, but appeared intoxicated. The portable breath test delivered a .109 BAC, over the 0.08 limit in Georgia.

After the arrest, Turner said, “I don’t think anybody is more disappointed than I am in myself. I’ve just got to man up.”
