If you hold a commercial driver’s license in Georgia, this single document is more important to you than almost anything else. You depend on driving to support yourself and your family. Whether you drive a big-rig, bus, or other commercial vehicle, you make your living behind the wheel. When this license is threatened, so is your future.

Speeding tickets are certainly more serious for you than for the average driver. When you get a speeding ticket for traveling 15 mph over the limit, along with another serious violation within ten years, that is enough to put you out of work. As an Alpharetta CDL defense attorney, I don’t think this is good for anyone—you, your family, or the trucking industry.

Calling a north Georgia traffic ticket attorney is the smartest thing you can do if faced with losing your CDL after a speeding ticket. Why?

First, consider the fact that cars and trucks are not equal:

  • Commercial drivers are on the road many more hours than the average citizen, so it is much more likely that you will receive a ticket.
  • While the driver of a smaller vehicle will receive two points and a speeding ticket for traveling from 15 to 18 mph over the limit, and just go on his way, just one ticket could take a commercial driver off the road.
  • Regular licensed Georgia drivers can apply for a limited permit or probationary license if their’s is suspended. Truck drivers cannot.
  • CDL drivers will lose their licenses for at least 60 days if they are convicted of two serious traffic violations in three years.
  • CDL drivers will lose their licenses for at least 120 days if convicted of a third.

Not very many people can afford to stop working for two to four months—minimum—and remain financially secure. Can you?
