Forward collision mitigation, by Alpharetta Atty. Scott Miller
Forward collision mitigation systems work to prevent front end to rear end vehicle collision. This system will automatically apply the brakes to a vehicle that is at risk of colliding with the rear of another vehicle.
Front to rear crashes are very common, and they may account for 25% of all vehicle crashes.
In recent test data FCM systems were able to avoid front to rear crashes 80% of the time.
The insurance safety Institute estimates that this system could reduce total crashes by up to 20% annually. This could mean preventing 65,000 crashes and approximately 800 fatalities per year.
