The Georgia legislature has in an effort to protect Highway workers, emergency technicians, and police officers from being injured while at the roadside, passed the Georgia move over law. Violation of the Georgia move over law carries a penalty of $500.
This law requires motorist to move there vehicle over one lane if possible when an emergency vehicles with flashing lights are located on the shoulder of the highway. If traffic is too heavy to move over safely then drivers are required to slow down below the posted speed limit and proceed slowly and carefully.
