In the year 1850 BC, the earliest known legal decision was handed down by a court.
The summary is that a temple employee was murdered by three men. The victim's wife was also accused because she knew about the murder and remained silent. Two witnesses came forward and convinced the court that the wife had been abused by the husband.  They also testified that she did not take part in the murder. The three men were convicted and executed, and the wife was found not guilty.
