While responding to a telephone report of an open garage door at a local residence, Alpharetta police found an unsecured, unoccupied home that housed over 188 pounds of marijuana plants.

Police estimate that the amount of marijuana in the house has a street value of over $850,000, being closer to the $1 million mark. When the police first responded they found what they are calling a large professional grow operation in the home.  After checking the home, they obtained a search warrant so they could more thoroughly investigate the operation.

The growers were renting the house and had made big structural changes to house the operation. They cut holes in the floors and ceiling areas and large industrial ductwork was created from the basement to the top floor of the house. An electrical and watering system was installed.

There were many plants at different growing stages throughout the home. There were over 250 plants taken from the home.  The homeowner claims they had no knowledge of the criminal activity. Police are currently looking after a person of interest in their investigation.

While being in possession of marijuana in the state of Georgia would be classified as a misdemeanor, growing marijuana on this level with an obvious intent to sell would be classified as a felony in Georgia

Everybody deserves a chance to explain his or her case in a court of law in the United States. At the Law Offices of Scott Miller we are glad that nobody was hurt, police or persons inside the house, when the police responded to the call.
