On August 5, 1963 a nuclear test ban treaty was signed with the Soviet Union and Great Britain. This treaty prohibited the testing of nuclear weapons in outer space, on the water, or in the atmosphere. This treaty was an important first step toward control of nuclear weapons.
On August 5, 1861 president Abraham Lincoln imposed first federal income tax. This was marked by the signing of the revenue act.
This act imposed a 3% tax on annual income over $800.
