Last week I while visiting one of my clients in a local jail, I saw another man who was sitting in an adjacent cell.  He asked me if I was a lawyer.  After I answered yes, he told me his story and asked me if I could help him.   When I asked him what he was charged with, he responded by telling me that he had been arrested for fishing without a license.  Now, fishing without a license is usually treated as a minor offense and usually a ticket is issued. The ticket instructs you to appear in court on certain day.  In court the judge decides the fine you must pay, which is usually small depending on the circumstances.

This man forgot his court date and did not appear in court.  A warrant was issued for his arrest.  He was later arrested and charged with failure to appear in court.  Now he has a much more complicated case than simple fishing without a license.
The lesson to learn here is, if you are issued a summons to appear in court for any reason, by all means be there, and be on time. The consequences for not doing so can be severe. If you have questions or issues with criminal problems, contact the law office of Scott Miller in Alpharetta Georgia.
